Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

71F, 93%, N 1 mph, clear at sunrise.  Ran 7.00 miles in 1:02:58, 9:00 per mile, right on target, but no heart rate monitor today.  I ran the first two days of this week then didn't feel like running any more.  At the chiro yesterday he dug deep into my piroformis, got my attention real good.  But I felt better.  Ate steak last night so wasn't feeling the greatest this morning, but went out anyway.  I was only going to run 1 mile but I kept going since things didn't seem to be getting worse (or better for that matter).  Eventually decided to go a whole 7 and managed it so I finished right at my doorstep.  I am becoming a little too familiar with the routes in my neighborhood.  When I got back I decided to keep moving, so I took my son's dog out for a walk.  (She is a border collie and has lots of energy.  I might teach her to run, but I don't think my wife wants her to become our dog.  Kind of a complicated parent-child-canine drama going on here.)  Then iced my back and I will do stretching at some point today.
