Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

71F, 93%, N 1 mph, clear at sunrise.  Ran 7.00 miles in 1:02:58, 9:00 per mile, right on target, but no heart rate monitor today.  I ran the first two days of this week then didn't feel like running any more.  At the chiro yesterday he dug deep into my piroformis, got my attention real good.  But I felt better.  Ate steak last night so wasn't feeling the greatest this morning, but went out anyway.  I was only going to run 1 mile but I kept going since things didn't seem to be getting worse (or better for that matter).  Eventually decided to go a whole 7 and managed it so I finished right at my doorstep.  I am becoming a little too familiar with the routes in my neighborhood.  When I got back I decided to keep moving, so I took my son's dog out for a walk.  (She is a border collie and has lots of energy.  I might teach her to run, but I don't think my wife wants her to become our dog.  Kind of a complicated parent-child-canine drama going on here.)  Then iced my back and I will do stretching at some point today.

It's good to see you're making some progress in your running!

I love steak but also feel misrable the day after I eat it.

You should throw a couple of cats and a few horses in the parent-child-pet mix and see how complicated things get :-)

Good run and I certainly know what you mean on knowing the route so well you don't need a Garmin to tell you how far you went. Steak reacts well with me.

Smooth, thanks, I am already plotting it out. Thinking about TOU, although I crash and burn every time I try to run at altitude.

IJR, lol, I guess we are the minor leagues compared to what you have going on at your house.

Dan, you must be a carnivore? For what it's worth, I only eat vegetarians.

Joe, that makes two carnivores in a row. Yeah, I think I'll be back soon, or as much as you can be in this heat. It's already over 100, second summer in a row we have had these kinds of temperatures.
