Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

27F, 82%, E 5 mph.  I don't think it was this cold, I am going to have to get my own weather station because the sites on the computer are not accurate.  They extrapolate too much.  I wore three shirts again but again it was too warm.  It will be much warmer the rest of the week.  The computer-reported temperature was already 34F by the time I finished.

Ran 10.00 miles in 1:18:52, 7:53/mile, average 164 bpm, max 170.  Splits were 8:10, 8:02 (159), 7:34 (162), 7:46 (163), 7:54 (164), 8:03 (164), 7:52 (165), 7:59 (166) 7:52 (166) and 7:41 (169).  So I ran quite a bit hotter than yesterday, but I didn't feel like I was working any harder.  Finished with 0.5 CD.  I don't normally run consecutive workouts like this, but I am quite a ways out from my next race and kind of experimenting with what I can withstand and whetherr I can get my legs to recover faster.  I may run hard again tomorrow if I can manage it.

I've found that I can wear a tank top as my only shirt but then wear some heavy arm sleeves and gloves to regulate my heat. Apparently my core gets really hot and needs to be able to cool but my extremities need to stay warm. With this fit-out I can take the gloves and arm sleeves off as needed during the run. You might try arm sleeves and a single shirt.
