Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

39F, 98%, calm and clear.  Gorgeous morning out, but I had a run that I was a little afraid of.  Wanted to go 8 miles at 7:00.  Warmed up 4 miles at about a 9:10 pace then took off.  I managed to hold it for 6 miles at sub-7 and probably could have averaged 7 flat for 2 more with the cushion I had but could no longer hold the pace so I gave up.  Still a good run though.  Fast splits were 6:57 (164), 7:00 (171), 6:50 (175), 6:55 (177), 6:56 (179) and 7:00 (179), average 6:56, 12 seconds faster and 1 mile longer than last week.

Traveling all week, probably not much but a couple of hotel treadmill sessions for the remainder of the week.

Man, when I said the tempo paces would come down quick, I guess I was thinking more than a week, but I guess this works too! Something is working well, great run.

Thanks everybody. It was a memorable week. I flew 25,000 miles but only ran 50 -- I thought that was a good ratio.
