Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

79F, 93% (77 DP), S 5 mph.  10.00 in 1:56:49, 11:41/mile, 120 bpm. Recovered from whatever was ailing me on Friday, so this is OK under the circumstances.

79F, 95% (77 DP), SSW 5 mph.  10.00 miles in 1:56:19, 11:38/mile, 120 bpm.  Almost identical to yesterday in every respect.  Finished with stretching and weights.

76F, 100% and calm.  Felt warmer than yesterday for some reason.  Another run very close to the other two this week.  10.00 miles in 1:56:02, 11:36/mile, 120 bpm.  Last mile was 11:56, excactly the same as yesterday.  At least I'm not getting worse, and I had weightlifting hangover in my legs, so this is probably an OK run.

80F, 97% (80 DP) and calm.  10.00 in 1:59:04, 11:56/mile.  New DP PR.  Really happy to pull back ahead of SlowJoe, he tried beating me on temperature yesterday, caught me napping, but I'm back on track this morning.

80F, 93% (77 DP), S 6 mph.  Ran the usual, 10.00 in 1:56:18, 11:38/mile, 120 bpm average.  Quite a bit faster than yesterday even with a lower heart rate.  So out of curiosity I checked the temperature again (Weather Channel) when I finished, and it showed 73F (100%), meaning a 4-degree drop in the dew point?  Pretty sure that is wrong; dew point tends to stay constant as temperature rises and RH drops in the course of the day, beccause it measures the actual amount of moisture in the air and stays the same until new weather moves in.  Right now it is 82F (89%), translating to a 78 DP, so either the moisture moved out then moved back in over a 4-hour period or the second reading was wrong.  I have my own weather station, but it is still boxed up waiting for a pergola to be built in the backyard.  I am looking forward to having accurate weather data.

76F, 97% (74 DP), calm and clear.  Slightly lower temperatures this morning, thought I might be able to hit 20, which turned out to be the case.  Started at 5:01 a.m. and so the last 5 miles or so were in the direct sunlight; took quite a toll but I made it.  Had a bottle of gatorade and a bottle of water and drained them both.  I was nauseous for about an hour after the run but never threw up.  Layed down and waited for my heart rate to get down into the 80s and then I was OK; took a long hot shower and I am moving around pretty well now, though lots of chafing on the outside of my legs, for some reason that was the rubbing spot today.  20.00 miles in 2:59:08, 8:57/mile, 157 bpm average heart rate, 175 max.
