Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

AM, still raining outside, so bagged it and went to the gym, did 10 LLHR miles on the TM, followed by stretching and abbreviated weight session.

PM, 5 hills on TM, felt fine.

Go search the entrants list and find out your bib# and assignments.

Excellent. This is exciting.

Looks like I am 17192, Wave 3, Corral 2. Not sure, but it seems high. A couple of years ago I was 13831 with a similar time. I wonder if there is a way to check corral times.

From flatlander on Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 09:11:33 from 76.31.29.220

Looking at 2014 corral times, a 3:33 time was in the 17K range, so this is probably right. Everything improved by 10 minutes over the year before, the last time I entered.

Woo hoo.... It's getting real!

From Bec on Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 09:32:43 from 70.115.197.197

Probably right, you are right by me. I have a 3:31 BQ time and I am wave 3, coral 1. Couple years a ago I had a 3:35 and I was wave 2, coral 1. :)

Are you getting excited? I didn't know you were going to Boston, congrats!

From flatlander on Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 09:44:10 from 76.31.29.220

Congrats to you too, I didn't know you were going either. Maybe I'll see you there, though it's a long shot with so many people all wearing variations of the same outfit.

I originally qualified with a 3:34 (SGM 2013), but dropped it to 3:31:59 in Richmond last fall. Based on what you are saying, it is possible they didn't consider my improved time I sent them, or I might have been right on the cusp. All the runners in these corrals are close enough in qualifying times that it shouldn't matter, but I can see it's going to be hard to get moving very well for the first few miles. Probably just as well. The results of my race, at least, are going to be determined after mile 17 as best I can tell -- I need to just relax until then.

Yup, I'm getting excited.

Wow! 10 miles on the treadmill. I think I would go crazy. Hope your weather clears up so you can get back out on the roads.

I'm cheering for #17192 in the boston marathon :) your training is going great.

From SlowJoe on Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 19:09:08 from 104.51.208.13

Boston is crazy...athletes that have run 26+ miles at an 8:00 pace, something inconceivable to most other humans, are seeded behind 17,000 other runners. I'm jealous of y'all, wish I was going!

From flatlander on Sat, Mar 14, 2015 at 08:34:29 from 76.31.29.220

Mark, it was fine this morning, back on the cement.

Yasir, thanks, I hope it holds for a few more weeks.

Joe, that is an excellent point. Aside from 80% of the people on this blog, I know only one other person that can run a 3:30 marathon. I should be happier for what I can do instead of fretting about what I can't do.
