Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

80F, 100%, SW 5 mph.  Out the door at 4:45, ran to the Y, did an extra mile and met Wade at mile 8 at 6 a.m.  We did 6, then met the regular group at 7 a.m.  Wade was only doing 10, so he turned back and I continued on to the church, where I had cleanup duty starting at 8 a.m., which is when I hit 20.00 miles, total of 3:10:30, 9:32 per mile, 145 bpm, 165 max.  The heat was bad, but there is no question I am still out of shape.  This is the worst part of a bad injury.  A small injury can sometimes actually be a benefit, because it forces you to rest and often you come back faster.  But a bad one destroys conditioning and it takes a long time to recover.  For someone my age, it can be the difference between getting another PR or not.  Anyway, I got it done, took a nap and didn't feel too bad the rest of the day.  Happy to get a day off.

WAY to piggyback all the miles in with different groups and top it off with church cleaning duty! 9:30 pace for a 20 miler in the brutal heat and humidity is amazing! GREAT JOB putting in mega miles consistently day in and day out!

Injuries stink no matter how small or bad. I agree that rest is such an important part of training, not just when we're injured. Hope you are healing fast and able to enjoy running for what it is and not be too discouraged about the loss of fitness.

Nice 20 miler in the heat. WOW. I do not know how all of you guys run in heat like that. I can not do it. I would suggest getting up earlier---but it was already 4:45. Double wow!

I am glad you are back out and running but we all understand your frustration with post injury running. Hopefully patience will pay off and it will all come back. I BELIEVE it will, I always do!
