Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

68F, 97%, ESE 4 mph.  Getting quite a bit warmer, I don't think we will see sub-60 too many more times until late in October.  Ran 10.18 miles, trying to keep heart rate around 140.  1:35:44, 9:24 per mile, 139 bpm.  Just trying to get as many miles in as possible right now without over-running my conditioning.

Since Boston is out...what's your next race?

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 29, 2012 at 15:40:21 from 174.27.212.157

HAPPY belated Birthday!!!!

What? Boston is out? What did I miss? I need to go back and read your older blogs!

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 29, 2012 at 15:54:02 from 174.27.212.157

OK, I read thru your last week's blogs. So sorry to hear you've had a tough week of fighting the flu. I can't believe how much mileage you still kept at it with not feeling well.

I totally understand your decision of not running Boston. I'd want my first Boston to be a great race too. Get feeling better soon. I'm sure you'll be back at it to pr at another marathon.

IJR, still deciding. Seriously considering Grandma's in Minnesota in mid-June, but some guys have mentioned some other ones.

Smooth, thanks, you are very kind. As I explained to somebody, I don't have too many PRs left in me, so when I go through a training cycle I want it to count. Thanks to SGM, I am already qualified for Boston next year anyway.

Good miles this week, I'm guessing the conditioning will bring you back into good shape just in time for another 5-month heat wave.

Way to keep at it! Hope you are feeling stronger.
