Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

63F, 89%, NW 6 mph with light rain.  Figured I should at least post the weather.  My injury might be in my upper glutes instead of lower back.  It is very deep, impervious to ice, and it only hurts when I try to walk.  I can stand, sit and drive normally.  And my left leg is normal, just my right, too bad I need them both.  When I focus on keeping the muscle relaxed, whatever muscle it is, I can walk.  And it is a little better this morning.  So there is hope, although a 3:20 marathon in Duluth is not going to happen at this point unless I am back to full speed at some point this week.  That will be a long shot.

Oh I was hoping for better. At least it has shown some signs of improvement this morning. Hope that trend continues and training resumes by week end.

Dang, just reading about this. Sorry about the setback. I hope it gets ironed out soon - maybe since it came on quickly, it will leave quickly since it's not an overuse injury.

Take plenty of ibuprofen for the next few days!

Maybe your gluteus medius muscle?

If you have a medicine ball or tennis ball, it might be helpful to roll around on it to loosen the muscle up.

Good luck flat. Sorry to hear but rest and hopefully you will be back soon. You are in great shape so that should help:)

Sorry to hear about the injury Flatlander. Maybe a massage therapist or a physical therapist could provide some insight? Take care, I hope for the best.

Thanks all. Just one day at a time right now, but Grandma's Marathon is increasingly unlikely. I am going to call a doctor tomorrow, a big step for me.
