Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

Two more one-hour sessions on the TM.  The second one was tough.  I am in Taipei now but leaving for Dubai in a couple of hours.  If Dubai is safe (and I think it is), I am going to run outside.  Just can't stomach any more time on that machine, it drives me nuts.  I can run forever outside without iPod or company, but I would never get fit if that infernal machine was my only option.  TV doesn't help, I just can't stand to run in one spot.

That is all.

Hey there you are! What a trip. Have you been to Dubai before? I spent the night there once but didn't get to see anything. I've seen it from the air a few hundred times though and it looks like a cool city with some crazy buildings and islands. Have a safe trip.

HOLY COW! You are the traveling man.

FYI, Dubai is VERY safe. haven't you seen Mission Impossible 3 or 4 or whatever the newest one is? Just watch out for wind storms.

Now, for real. Our Utah police dog trainer has been to Dubai twice to train their dogs. The Dubai officers have been to Utah twice to be trained by the best (my husband and his officers, of course) and my husband is going there in a few weeks to train them again. So, you are safe.

I'm impressed at your dedication even while traveling. Taiwan is a fun place if you have time to see some sites.

Did I read somewhere you are in taper mode? Taipei mode? Just trying to catch up...

My company is working on a couple of big fountain projects in Dubai right now. I've never been there but I've heard it's pretty interesting. Hope you get to run outside, I can see some anger boiling up in you...!

The treadmill is no fun, but you better be safe out there! Be careful!

Joe, it was my first time. Strange place but I hear it's OK to live here as an ex-pat.

Kelli, thanks for the feedback. I ran outside twice while I was here and never felt uneasy.

AC: Never made it out of the conference room in Taiwan, but it looked interesting. I'm going back in a month so hopefully I'll have a little downtime.

E, hi!

Preston, I saw some of those fountains. Mostly saltwater I presume?

S8, turned out to be no problem, felt very safe running outside here.
