Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

Mr. Crockett stayed with us last night and left early this morning to go to the start of the RR 100.  He is still hurting but will play it by ear.

A.M., went out for first run after returning home, hoping to get in 10 but had to give up at 4.58 miles when a heavy thunderstorm broke out, truncating the run early.  Overall about 9:00 pace.

P.M., went out to Huntsville ready to pace Crockett.  Met Wade there, the plan was to take turns.  We ran through the night with Crockett, sometimes all three together, sometimes one or the other of us.  I left at 5:00 a.m. to get to a 7:00 church meeting and Wade finished the race with him.  I'll let him give the report, but suffice it to say we got in lots of good conversation and got to see a level of perserverance that we probably won't encounter again in our running lives.  Total of 24.18 miles pacing.

What's going on...? Are you torturing yourself for being gone so long? It sounds like you were trying to run about 35 miles for the day. You're an Ultra-Runner...no argument!

Wow!

It was raining cats and dogs in Kingwood! I kept thinking about the trail condition for you and Crockett in the night, dark and soggy!

Wow!!! Awesome miles! WAY to pace the ultra legend! I can see you becoming an ultra aficionado! GOOD JOB!!!

IJR, didn't know what my miles for the day would be, but it has been in the plans all along to pace Crockett in this race. It was the experience of a lifetime but I don't see myself doing ultras for a while. Unfortunately, my sweet wife saw the aftereffects and I think I am banned for the next 5 years.

Stephen, thanks, how is everything going?

Smooth, hopefully conditions will be much better for you out there. Don't see any rain in the forecast for Saturday. The soil alternates between clay and sand, and you can guess where the mud was. Wade and I are doing a half on Saturday out in Baytown, weather is looking great right now.

Sounds pretty fun, and a nice workout as an added bonus. Welcome back.

That looked like a brutal race, what a muddy mess! My SIL loved it and finally got her sub-24 (she came in 6th). Anyway, I thought about you guys when i headed out to church and he was not yet finished! I am sure your conversation was great and got him through it in one piece (or close to one piece!)

FUN FUN. So, now seeing it, would you ever do it? Watching/helping on one certainly cured me of ever wanting to attempt 100 miles!
