Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

77F, 94% and calm.  Another day, another 10, 1:30:05, 9:00 per mile, 153 bpm, 165 max.  Wasn't sure what would happen today.  I had designs on a longer run, but last night sitting in a movie theater my disk starting pushing against my nerve, to the point I was limping on the way back to the car.  (It was MIBIII, good movie by the way.)  Stretched it out last night and this morning and I made it through the run, intentionally pacing a little slower.  Tomorrow is a well-timed day off.  So no long run today.  This has been a good week, no sense pushing it.  I am still struggling with the heat in any event.  Better to ease into it over several weeks instead of jumping in the deep end like I had to do this year.

Then I took my son's dog for a walk and wore her out.  At this rate she is going to be my dog.

MIB3 is funny, I liked it! Smart to not force a long run with the back, heat and all. Three 10 milers in a row is mighty fine IMHO! Glad the dog-child-dad relationship is working out!

Flat..... Oh my..... Flat the dog whisperer! Let me know if I can help at all. By the way..... That's what happened to us. Adoption..... Kids had good intentions but.......

Thanks Smooth, glad I have company. It was pretty gross in places, I couldn't believe I was laughing.

Rye, I had that one coming. We knew it would work out this way, but parents never learn, I guess.

Three dog whisperers on the blog?

You know Mark, I've always valued your opinion. But after MIBII, how could MIBIII possibly be any good? Did they learn from their mistakes?

I feel the same way, we just got a family dog for the first time. I don't know whether to kick it or pet it.

Joe...... Don't kick the dog!

From flatlander on Mon, Jul 02, 2012 at 08:11:45 from 76.31.26.153

Burt, you'll have to take my word for it. I know these things.

Joe and Rye, you are going to have to work this out somehow.
