Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

64F, 100% and calm.  Pretty warm for a December morning, even in Houston.  Got it done though.  Went to the Y but Wade is traveling this week and I didn't feel like running fast.  Eventually I ended up running with Elizabeth, who is a pretty good runner that has been fighting sickness and injury.  The group was running 18.8 and I was running 20.  We ran about 9:40 pace most of the way, speeding up a little bit at times but basically slogging it out.  Her hip started to kill her so she had to stop about 3 miles from the end, but it was the furthest she had run in 2 years.  I came in the last 3 at about an 8:50 pace.  Recovered a little bit then drove back out along the course looking for her but never found her, hopefully she got a ride from somebody.  I really hope she didn't exacerbate the injury.  She has a marathon and a 50-miler coming up in the first quarter next year.

20.00 miles in 3:10:27, 9:31 per mile, 143 bpm, 166 max.  Honestly I probably wouldn't have run this much faster on my own, it has been a lot of miles this week, but a good week.  Feel like I accomplished something, but the proof is on race day (January 1) and it has been a while since I ran a really good marathon.

Great way to start out your December, Flat.

Not sure I understand the going to the Y part. Do you just meet there and run as a group?

You'll be in your element on flat land - it's gonna be a good one. Excellent job on the miles.
