Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

62F, 68%, E 13 mph.  Intended to do a fast finish long run, but I have acquired a respectable sore throat with everything going on this week.  Did the first half of it though:  10.13 miles at 8:15 per mile.  Legs felt strong.  Duh, I haven't done anything this week.  This has been a great taper week, but the Boston Athletic Association said they wouldn't move up their date for me.  They seemed quite inflexible, something about a planeload of Kenyans coming in on non-refundable tickets.  I could have come up with something better than that.

Headed on a spring break road trip with wife and daughter, to North Carolina, Virginia and Washington D.C., should be fun.  I think there will be enough time to run.

Bummer about the sore throat. I still have a lingering cough myself. Hopefully you didn't catch it from me 10 days ago. Didn't think I was still contagious then.

You could have told them you were one of those Kenyans...maybe then they would have changed their minds :-) Hope your sore throat goes away soon and you get plenty of running on your vacation!

Hope you are having a great time and that you did not get sick before the trip!

Ditto, hope it's a fun trip. Tell you what - we're friends, so I will talk to the BAA for you and we'll see what we can do about that date getting moved.

Thanks everybody. Trip went well but no running, had a virulent flu bug and I shut it down for the entire week. Feeling better now and hopefully I can start getting my life back in the morning.
