Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

50F, 100%, clear and calm.  Slept right through my alarm, don't know the last time that happened.  The alarm seems to be in perfect working condition.  But I got 8 hours of sleep, which feels great.  I woke up on my own just in time to do the seminary run, so I went out afterwards for a shortened session.   Had planned to do 10 x 1K but cut it down to 6 x 1K.  I could still feel the leg weights this morning, pretty tired the whole run and wasn't sure I could hit my splits.  I planned to do 4:21 (7:00 pace).  Ended up getting them, although it wasn't easy:  6:58 (160), 7:00 (162), 6:51 (165), 6:50 (166), 6:55 (168) and 6:58 (167).  3-mile warmup and 1.5 mile cooldown.  Felt deep fatigue after finishing.  Overall 10.37 miles in 1:24:57, 8:12 pace.  It is sobering to think about my chances of running this pace for the marathon distance.

PM:  5.0 on the TM at 9:30 pace.

20 miles the day before might have something to do with it! Nice repeats on tired legs, definitely another deposit in the bank.

Great job flat! I have to agree with slowjoe, way to get some speed work in on tired legs.

Just get caught up on your blog from last week. First off, CONGRATZ on a great 20 miler last Fri. Second off, very happy you've chosen to run Grandma in June with your sister. Lastly, your training are SO SO SO SO SOLID! EXCELLENT JOB, Mark! :)

I'd say you did very well after the 20 miler yesterday. Good running!

I had the opposite problem. I was going to sleep in and get some extra rest and I woke up at 4:30 and never went back to sleep :-(

Thanks everybody. By the way, I just re-read my entry and want to clarify that I have no illusions about running my next marathon at a 7:00 pace -- that will have to wait until I'm much older.
