Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm 60, there is no long term.

Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

73F, 100%, calm and clear.  6.00 miles in 1;10:06, 11:41/mile, 121 bpm.  Merrills again, not sure they are helping my foot though.  Didn't run all last weekend (Thursday through Saturday) due to graduation events.  My wife graduated from BYU, my son graduated from medical school and my daughter graduated from high school.  So we had a big family blow-out, including packing my son's truck up for their move to Virginia for his residency.  He left town at noon on Saturday and is gone, just like that.  Kind of hard to take after having them around for 4 years, hard to believe it is already over.  My daughter will be doing the same thing in August.

73F, 100% clear and calm.  5.14 miles in 1:02:39, 12:11/mile, 120 bpm.  Lifted weights yesterday and it was taking a toll today.  One thing for sure, I will never go into a weight room inside of 10 days from a goal race.

74F, 93%, SSW 5 mph.  10.00 iles in 2:03:46, 12:22/mile, even slower than yesterday.  I ran 12:08 through 6 miles, then 12:42 for the last four.  Combination of heavy weights two days ago and hot weather, plus lack of talent.

75F, 100%, SSE 3 mph.  Getting hotter every day now.  10.00 miles in 2:02:00, 12:12/mile, 121 bpm average.  First 6 were 12:03, last 4 were 12:25, so better than yesterday, time to hit the weight room again.  Hoping to go long tomorrow, almost looking forward to putting the gas pedal down a little, but probably won't feel that way at the end of the run.
