Personal:

I live, work and run in Houston, Texas.  I have run 17 marathons, some good ones and some others.  I prefer straight, flat, cold, sea-level marathons, still waiting for my first one.  I feel like there are more PRs out there.  When I have them, I am told it is time to dial it back, run for healthy reasons.  I'm sure that's right, and I'm sure it won't happen.

My wife and I are from the mountains of the west.  We have five kids, three granddaughters and three grandsons.  The kids and grandkids are native Texans but we are not -- you have to be born here.

As for my blog title: I run most of my miles before sunrise, sometimes hours before. On the back road of my neighborhood two hours before daylight, I can depend on a pack of mutts behind the boundary fence lighting up when they hear my footsteps. I have wondered what they wanted; but according to Hemingway I needn't ask.

55F. Wade drove to my house and we ran in the neighborhood. 2 warmup, then 2 fast ones, then 2.7 cooldown. The fast ones were 7:31, 7:14, average heart rate for the run 155, max 174 bpm. Best stride length was 1.12 meters. Overall 8:10 pace.

This "short run" business must feel pretty strange to you. Usually, you don't leave the house for less than 10 miles, even on race week.

You can't argue with those paces, though. It seems like this is working well for you.

Tom, kind of adrift right now, deciding what to do going forward. I feel like I need to take the foot off the gas for a few more weeks at least, but I'll probably crank it up one more time about April or so if I decide to run the 25K in Grand Rapids in May. I have an appointment there with the 2-hour guy. After that, still deciding what to do. I have Boston 2017 with my siblings (however many of them qualify), but that most likely will not be a fast effort. I like having the extra time in the morning, at least for now.

Smooth, thanks. I'm leaving town on Thursday, so I won't make Woodlands this year. Is Larissa running it? She is getting quite fast I noticed.
